Saint-Gobain Surface Conditioning's polycrystalline alumina slurries provide optimal cutting performance in a variety of polishing applications.
A pioneer in the development of seeded gel abrasives, Saint-Gobain’s groundbreaking technology produces a grain with a unique nano-structure composed of extremely uniform, equiaxial and sub-micron crystals. Under stress, the nano-structured crystal network allows micro-fracturing, continually exposing new cutting edges that keep the particle sharper than conventional abrasives for longer-lasting abrasive performance.
Saint-Gobain polycrystalline alumina polishing slurries are available in both acidic and basic pH conditions and in particle sizes ranging from 150nm to 2um, depending on the product. Our team of engineers will work with you to recommend the best-performing alumina slurry for your application.
Saint-Gobain’s 9240 and 9245 aqueous alumina slurries feature fundamental crystal size ranges from 50 to 100 nanometers. The unique composition of extremely small crystals, primarily alpha alumina, results in a very cost effective, rapid polishing slurry that achieves highly polished finishes on a variety of materials such as metals, crystals and ceramics.
Our 9240 (alkaline pH) and 9245 (acidic pH) slurries can be used with pads or pitch, and depending on the application, on soft metal plates.
Specifically designed for optimal polishing performance on C-plane sapphire, Saint-Gobain’s 9221 nano alumina slurry offers a slight modification to the crystal structure of 9240 alumina slurry, allowing for more aggressive and abrasive cutting action on sapphire. Available in basic solution in 0.35um and 1.2um sizes and custom sizes depending on the application, Saint-Gobain 9221 alumina slurry is capable of achieving < 3 Angstrom Ra with no visible scratches.
Saint-Gobain 9220 polycrystalline alumina polishing slurry is an aqueous slurry of alumina in which the fundamental crystal size ranges from 50 to 100 nanometers. Utilizing the same abrasive platform as 9240 and 9245, Saint-Gobain optimized the chemistry for 9220 to provide a better dispersion property in applications where easy spraying is necessary, such as polishing specimen samples on bench top polishing machines.
